Database as a Service Platform Improves High Availability, Enhances Support for Oracle and Other Databases

No one comes close to Tesora's database as a service platform in terms of the combination of features and choice of 13 different databases.
Today the company makes available new features in its database as a service - based on OpenStack Trove - which make it easier for administrators to manage disparate database technologies through their life cycle.

IT and database managers can now update OpenStack database guest images in real-time with the newest, enterprise-ready version of the Tesora database as a service (DBaaS) platform. This automates patch management that would otherwise be an intensive, manual exercise.

The new Tesora DBaaS Platform Enterprise Edition 1.7 also provides more control over database replica placement ensuring that they are not subject to the same failure risk as masters while supporting high availability requirements. Plus, a newly available guest image for DataStax Enterprise 4.7, the enterprise version of Apache Cassandra, is added to the extensive list of databases currently supported.

The addition of support for DataStax Enterprise to Tesora's database as a service platform is an important step forward for organizations running OpenStack."

Additional capabilities brought to Tesora's enterprise-class implementation of OpenStack Trove include the following:

  • Oracle 12c and 11g replication support using DataGuard, plus the ability to retrieve log files for troubleshooting and performance tuning
  • Cassandra and Couchbase support for clustering, which improves performance and high availability
  • MySQL clustering support that is based on Percona XtraDB Cluster

Tesora DBaaS Platform Enterprise Edition is a single, common management infrastructure that provides a simple, unified way to handle complete database lifecycle management including: provisioning on-demand from a choice of 13 different databases; managing backup and restores; securing with user permissions and automated patch management; log file retrieval; and more.

In addition to multiple databases supported, Tesora DBaaS Enterprise Edition is certified with leading OpenStack distributions from Mirantis, Red Hat and Ubuntu.

Tesora DBaaS Platform Enterprise Edition 1.7 is available immediately. This enterprise-hardened implementation of the OpenStack Trove DBaaS is based on the most current OpenStack code base (stable Liberty).
